Triple D - Dangerous Drugs for Dentistry

Event Details

Not only are the number of agents that our patients are using is increasing, including the increased use of “alternate” or “complimentary” medications, but also their complexity, with the advent of potent, targeted, biological agents.  The result is an increasing number of our patients will be at greater risk of adverse effects from their medications.

These adverse effects include the impeding of the safe delivery of dental treatment and the adverse oral and dental manifestations and complications related to the use of medications.

This one-day lecture program aims to identify those patients, the medications they are taking and those drugs that are dangerous to provision of safe dental care for our patients

    Mark Schifter

    A/Professor in Oral Medicine

    Mark Schifter is an A/Professor in Oral Medicine School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The University of Sydney. He obtained his specialist qualifications in Oral Medicine, also from the University of Sydney in 1998. He also holds Memberships (by examination) in Special Needs Dentistry and Oral Medicine from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburg and Fellowships in Oral Medicine (by examination) from the Faculty of Dentistry, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (FFD RCSI (Oral Med) and Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (FRACDS (Oral Med). He is the current Convenor/Coordinator of the specialist-training program in Oral Medicine of the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Sydney. Mark is a Staff Specialist in Oral Medicine, Department of Oral Medicine, Oral Pathology and Special Needs Dentistry at Westmead Hospital. He holds the following clinical appointments at Westmead: Blood and Bone Marrow Transplant Unit,
