Event Details

Course Outline:

Traumatic dental injuries occur commonly – especially in young children and adolescents. These are critical ages for tooth development as well as for general growth and development of the oro-facial region. Hence, it is essential that oral and dental injuries are effectively managed to minimise the consequences of the trauma on the individual tooth, associated structures and overall quality of life. Effective management begins with a thorough history and examination. Adequate diagnosis then subsequently informs the specific management protocols that are required, depending on the tooth involved (primary or permanent), the nature of each injury and its severity. The immediate management is critical to the long-term prognosis for the tooth, whilst the follow-up regime and treatment in the early post-trauma stages are also of great importance.

Although dental traumatic injuries are common, most dentists do not see trauma cases on a regular basis, which can lead to uncertainty about what to do. This full-day presentation will provide clinicians with an update on the latest information about traumatic dental injuries and how to manage them for the best long-term outcomes. The day will also be an opportunity for participants to honour the incredible, and immense, contribution of Prof Jens Andreasen to the dental profession and in particular to dental traumatology.
