This 3 day course is designed to give you the most up-to-date, cutting-edge knowledge and skills in examining and caring for children between the ages of 0–4 years old.
Oral milestones and growth & development issues such as breathing, oral habits and tongue ties are part of this exciting curriculum. Please see course outline below.
Course Outline Day 1 & 2
– Understand Fetal craniofacial development, pregnancy and oral health and the impacts of these on the oral care protocol for the pregnant patient
– Understand the anatomical and physiological features of the newborn and infant oral cavity and cranium and its development
– Identify the specific developmental milestones and changes associated with the oral cavity from birth to 4 years
– Identify tongue and lip tie in babies and children and understand current research in treatment protocols for this age group
– Understand and screen oral development in relation to feeding and speech
– Learn how to examine babies and children from the ages of 4 months – 4 years old
– Understand the elements that contribute to healthy growth and development in newborns to age 4 years
– Understand multifactorial etiology and its impact on oral and facial development
– Screen babies and children under 4 years for normal oral and dental development
– Learn how to refer to other health practitioners
