Become proficient and confident in the administration of nitrous oxide in clinical practice. Approved by the Australian Society of Dental Anaesthesiology (ASDA), the course provides an introduction to the use of relative analgesia (RA) in dental practice. It is also an excellent refresher for dentists wishing to update their knowledge and practical skills in the delivery of RA. You will be given the opportunity to administer
nitrous oxide sedation to each other, and to yourself the effects themselves in a safe environment.
- Practical application of the use of RA on patients
- Usage of RA armamentarium
- Appropriate maintenance and sterilisation of equipment
- Indications and contra-indications of relative analgesia.
- At the conclusion of this course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the legal requirements for the use of RA
- Understand the indications, limitations and advantages of using RA
- Use RA properly
- Appropriately bill for RA procedures.

Dr Preketes obtained Graduate Diplomas in Clinical Dentistry at The University of Sydney in the areas of Oral Implants, and Conscious Sedation and Pain Control. He runs his own practice in Sydney and is a Visiting Dental Officer at the IV Sedation Department of West Mead Hospital.

Dr Michael Walker BDS, FPFA is a past President of ASDA and is the University of Sydney lecturer for diploma students in intravenous sedation and is the senior clinical associate and external examiner in intravenous sedation. He teaches dentists from across Australia the skills required for sedation dentistry. Dr Walker has been treating anxious patients as a private practitioner since 1984 where nitrous oxide inhalation sedation forms an integral part of his practice.
