Event Details

This event includes information on the following topics:

  • Soft Tissue Management
  • Dental Materials
  • Guided Bone Regeneration
  • Implant Failures

The intended audience for this event includes:

  • General Dentists
  • Students

Just like natural teeth, implants are constantly battling and resisting microbiological insults. A homeostatic situation is usually achieved when environmental and patient factors are favourable. This situation is finely balanced; any disturbances or adverse changes can easily shift the equation towards disease.

Hands-on exercises will be undertaken on pig jaws and simulation models to put into practice a number of the presented concepts, including use of xenogenic materials to reconstruct hard and soft tissue periimplant defects. Soft tissue manipulation will also be addressed (e.g. instrumentation, flap design and raising techniques, tension-free primary closure, and suturing techniques).
Key topics to be covered will include:
• Comparing the aetiology and pathophysiology of periodontal diseases and peri-implantitis
• Diagnostic considerations, risk factors and prevention
• Principles of management:
> Non-surgical management – step-by-step management of the mouth as a whole and affected implant(s)
> Surgical management indications and options
• Implant surface decontamination techniques and supporting evidence
• Reconstructive techniques – use of biomaterials to regenerate bone and gain soft tissue volume
• Role of antimicrobials in peri-implantitis management

This course is designed for practitioners with an interest in expanding their concepts for Peri-Implantitis treatment.
