In this session, Becky will address and highlight the diagnosis of different periodontal diseases incorporating the newly established classification system from the 2017 World Workshop on the Classification of Periodontal and Peri-implant Diseases and Conditions. Subsequently this will allow us to determine when to refer the periodontal patient for specialist assessment and treatment.

    Dr Becky Ellis, BDS (Distinction), DCD (Perio)Dr Rebecca Ellis graduated BDS (Distinction) from the University of Otago 2011 and then worked as a dental house surgeon in both the Hawkes’ Bay and Auckland before working in private practice in Auckland. In 2015 Rebecca moved to Melbourne to complete a three-year doctoral degree in Periodontology. During her training she was awarded an ITI research grant for preclinical research in implant dentistry. Her research interests include preclinical and clinical research in immediate implant placement and also guided bone regeneration. Rebecca is an active member of the NZDA and her local branch. She is a member of ANZAP, a fellow of the ITI, Communications officer for the Australasian section as well as co-director of the Auckland CBD ITI Study Club.In 2020 Rebecca launched a new initiative- ‘Women in Dentistry- Ladies who lunch and learn’, a group focused on the wellbeing, education and support of the female demographic within the dental profession. Rebecca works as a specialist Periodontist in full-time private practice at the Institute of Dental Implants and Periodontics in Auckland, New Zealand.
