Learn how best to manage a young child in the dental surgery. 

Ever felt that sinking feeling in your stomach when you look at your clinic schedule and see several preschool-aged children booked in to see you? Taking a young child to the dentist maybe one of the most anxiety provoking experiences for all concerned: child, parent and all members of the dental team.  

Explore the factors that contribute to both helpful and unhelpful child behaviours, and learn some tips and tricks you can adopt to try to optimise the experience for all.  

You will learn how to:

  • Understand the factors that impact child behaviour
  • Be able to describe some strategies to optimise child behaviour 
  • Feel more confident about managing a young child in the dental surgery

    Associate Professor Nicola (Nicky) Kilpatrick

    Specialist Paediatric Dentist

    Nicky has more than 30 years of experience as a specialist paediatric dentist in a wide range of settings in both Australia and overseas. In addition to her current role as clinical director of the Melbourne cleft service, she also has a busy coaching and mentoring practice. Her clinical interests include the oral health and management of children with special needs, and the integration of oral health into child health and wellbeing.
