Event Details

This course will refresh and update your knowledge about clinical assessment and appropriate management of patients. It provides hands-on training for administration of nitrous oxide sedation and CPR.
Good communication and behaviour management of patients are essential practice-building skills. This course helps improve your communication skills with patients, so you understand patient expectations and achieve better clinical outcomes. It also allows you to identify patients who would benefit from treatment modification.
This one-day course for general practitioners combines lecture material and hands-on components to increase your comfort in providing treatment to a wide range of your patients.

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:
Š Understand patent expectations and help patents make an informed decision
Š Clinically evaluate patents and use appropriate behaviour management strategies
Š Identify and manage patents with Body Dysmorphic Disorder
Š Understand indications and contraindications for nitrous sedation
Š Use nitrous sedation clinically
Š Refresh skills to provide CPR.

    Dr Sadna Rajan

    lecturer and Convener of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Paediatric Dentistry program at the Melbourne Dental School

    Dr Sadna Rajan is a lecturer and Convener of the Doctor of Clinical Dentistry in Paediatric Dentistry program at the Melbourne Dental School. She completed her clinical training in Paediatric dentistry in Leeds UK (2011) and subsequently obtained her membership, MPaedDent RCS (England & Glasgow), in 2012. She has been a clinical academic for the past 13 years and Specialist in Paediatric dentistry with AHPRA since 2014. Her special interests include the management of dental caries, paediatric endodontics, dental trauma, inhalation sedation and developmental dental anomalies in healthy and medically compromised children. Her research interests range from cariology to the study of dental pulp in relation to infection, inflammation and regeneration, and paediatric endodontics. She has been the recipient of Charles Eleanor Knowles (2011) from University of Leeds and Young Researcher Travel Award (2012) from European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry.

    Registered Nurse

    Mr Ian Cash graduated as a registered nurse (Division 1) in 1977 - College of Nursing Australia. (Second graduating group of college trained nurses in Australia). He completed post basic nursing certificates in: Intensive Care / Coronary Care (Western General Hospital, Footscray), Midwifery nursing (Mercy Maternity Hospital, East Melbourne), Emergency nursing (Oxford School of Nursing - UK), Bachelor of Education Studies, Monash University (1988), Certificate IV in Assessment and Workplace Training (2001). Ian is Director and founder of the Australasian SOS Oxygen and First Responder Training P/L and Treasurer of the Australian Resuscitation Council, Victoria Branch. Ian works two days a week as an Associate Nurse Unit Manager, Critical Care at Knox Private Hospital. During 2018, Ian will be providing lectures and practical sessions in Resuscitation and Medical Emergencies in Dental Practice to the DDSc students, BoH and University post grads. Ian has also worked with the RDHM, providing CPR certification for staff, since 1999.
