The pressures to deliver services at competitive rates is now clearly visible in all aspects of dentistry. With regards to dental implants, this is perhaps even more true. However, when the actual accounting of the placement, restoring and maintenance of implants is reviewed, there are some significant differences in where the profit margins vs the risk of procedures having adverse consequences. This lecture looks at what it really costs to utilising the option of the dental implant and perhaps what aspects have been ignored to the clinicians peril.

Dr Christopher Barker is a Queensland-based Periodontist who specialises in the full scope of specialist periodontics treatment methods. He is passionate about staying up-to-date with new treatments and technologies that assist in providing positive patient outcomes and experiences. Christopher is one of only a few specialist periodontists in Australia able to provide LANAP® – a minimally invasive laser periodontal treatment and Guided Biofilm Therapy, one of the latest technologies in dental hygiene treatments.
Christopher is president of the Australian Osseointegration Society (AOS), former president of the Australian Society of Periodontology (ASP) and a director of International Team for Implantology (ITI) (Sunshine Coast branch). He is a member of the Australian & New Zealand Academy of Periodontists (ANZAP), the Australian Dental Association (ADA) and launched the inaugural public awareness campaign, ‘Fight Gum Disease Australia’ in February 2020.
