COURSE OUTLINE

This hands-on program is convened by Dr Alan Yap and systematically covers the restoration of single implant restorations with integrated evidence-based lecture content. Practitioners are trained in the planning and restoration of straightforward to advanced single-unit cases of both anterior and posterior sites.

    Danielle is a prosthodontist in private practice in Brisbane, Australia; a visiting specialist at the University of Queensland, Australia; and a Reader for a Doctor of Philosophy at Oxford University, United Kingdom. Danielle graduated dentistry with the University Medal from University of Queensland, qualified with high distinction as a Prosthodontist at University of Sydney, and completed a Master of Science in Evidence Based Health Care at Oxford University. Research interests include patient-based outcomes, prosthesis survival, medical indexing, time to event methodology and the influence of withdrawn data. Danielle is also actively involved in committee and leadership roles in the Australian Dental Association, Academy of Australian and New Zealand Prosthodontics, Oxford University Society, and Hertford Middle Common Room, Oxford

    Convenor: Porcelain Veneers, Implant Prosthodontics 1& Implant Prosthodontics 2 Alan completed the Bachelor of Dental Surgery and Master of Dental Science in Prosthodontics with Honours, at the University of Sydney. He was awarded the ITI Scholarship to attend the Department of Periodontics at the University of North Carolina. Alan was awarded Membership to the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He is a Fellow of the ITI, and Member of the Education and Research Committee of the Australian Prosthodontic Society. He served as a Federal Executive of the Australian Prosthodontic Society, Member of the Planning Committee of Continuing Education in Dentistry at the University of Sydney, and Member of the Executive Committee of the Australasian Osseointegration Society. Alan holds the title of Honorary Clinical Lecturer for the University of Sydney. He was a mentor for the Graduate Diploma of Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) program at the University of Sydney and mentor for the Postgraduate Diploma of Dental Implantology at Charles Sturt University. Alan is a lecturer and examiner in Prosthodontics for final year dental students at the University of Sydney. He is a registered speaker for the ITI and lectures locally and internationally. He has publications in the International Journal of Prosthodontics and the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants. He is a reviewer for the International Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Implants and is a contributor to the textbook "Oral Rehabilitation: A Case-Based Approach.”

    Anthony graduated from the University of Western Australia in 1990. He completed the Fellowship of Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons (General Stream) in 2002, Masters in Periodontics from University of Sydney in 2006, Fellowship of Royal College of Dental Surgeons (Specialist Stream of Periodontics) in 2006. Anthony worked in specialist private practice treating all areas of periodontics and surgical implant dentistry since 2007. He is the past NSW council representative for Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists and was involved in post-graduate implant training at the University of Sydney. He lectures locally on periodontal and surgical implant treatment. Anthony is a member of Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontitics, International Team of Implantology, Australian Dental Association and British Periodontal Society.

    Carolina graduated from the University Complutense of Madrid in 2006. After completing her studies she moved to Oxford (UK), where she worked as a general dentist and undertook further studies in restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, and implants in London, Manchester, and France. During this time, she gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK). In early 2013 she settled in Melbourne and while working in private practice, she completed a part-time diploma in clinical dentistry in the field of implants at The University of Melbourne. Carolina also received her prosthodontics specialist training and degree at The University of Melbourne. In addition to working in private practice at Bayside Dental Specialists and Tasman Prosthodontics, Carolina is involved in continuous professional training as well as undergraduate and postgraduate teaching through The University of  Melbourne. She is the current president of the Australian Prosthodontic Society Victoria Branch, member of the Australian Osseointegration Society, the International Team for Implantology and the Australian Dental Association.

    Demonstrator: Implant Prosthodontics 1 - Single Units Elena grew up in Perth and originally graduated from The University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Dental Science. After working as a general dentist in private practice in Perth, she then relocated to Adelaide. It was here she completed a further three years of study, receiving her Doctor of Clinical Dentistry at The University of Adelaide in 2017 to qualify as a specialist prosthodontist. During her postgraduate studies, Elena also completed a short term clinical residency in maxillofacial prosthodontics overseas, as well as gaining publications in the Australian Dental Journal and the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. Dr Hotinski is the current president for the Australian Prosthodontic Society (South Australian branch) and is regularly invited to give clinical education lectures to both general dentists and fellow specialists. She has also been extensively involved in teaching of the undergraduate dental students at The University of Adelaide for the past nine years. She has interest in all aspects of prosthodontics including implantology, with a research focus on angulation correcting implants, complex restorative dentistry and the treatment of tooth wear, cosmetic dentistry, as well as challenging denture cases.

    Ken is a dental specialist with dual qualification in prosthodontics and implant dentistry. Clinical services in his Miranda and Sydney private practices comprise all facets of prosthodontics including implant, aesthetic and reconstructive dentistry. His professional career spans 26 years and has included roles in general and specialist private practice in Sydney CBD, metropolitan and NSW regional locations. He has also held public and private hospital appointments. Between 2005-19, he held multiple roles within Sydney Dental School (undergraduate, postgraduate implants and prosthodontic programs, and professional education), Charles Sturt University and James Cook University (postgraduate implant programs). He is is an Executive Member of the Scientific and Continuing Professional Development Committee, Academy of Australia and New Zealand Prosthodontists (2016-), is Past Federal President of the Australian Prosthodontic Society (2013-15), and previously held executive membership with Continuing Education in Dentistry, Sydney Dental School (2011-19), including a five year term as its final Chair.

    Dr Lydia Lim is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in private specialist practice in Chatswood. She is a graduate of Sydney University and completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training in Sydney obtaining the MDSc and FRACDS(OMS) qualifications. She then furthered her training in the United States at the University of Texas at Houston. Lydia is currently a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Westmead Hospital where she is involved with teaching surgical registrars and managing maxillofacial trauma. She also has special interest in complex dental implantology and orthognathic surgery.

    Specialist prosthodontist

    Dr Tuan Dao is a registered dental specialist in the field of Prosthodontics in New South Wales. He graduated from the University of Sydney in 2003 receiving a Bachelor of Dental Surgery with Honours. Dr Dao then worked in private practice in Sydney for two years. During this time, he undertook and passed the Primary Fellowship exams for the College of Dental Surgeons. In 2006 he was accepted by the University of Sydney to undertake three years full time postgraduate specialist training. During his training Dr Dao’s interest within the field of dentistry extended to complex patient care and complete oral rehabilitation. This cumulated in the receipt of the 2007 Young Prosthodontist Award from the International College of Prosthodontists.

    Terry graduated with the BDS degree in 1974 and MDSc (prosthodontics) degree in 1979 from the University of Sydney, Australia and MS (fixed-prosthodontics) degree in 1981 from the University of Michigan. He has been in specialist prosthodontic practice in Sydney since 1983 and currently holds the position of Professor (Affiliate) in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Sydney. He is a member of many dental organisations including the International College of Prosthodontists, of which he was co-president in 2000-2001, the International College of dentists and the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and is on the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Prosthodontics. He has published many papers on the long-term outcomes of fixed tooth- and implant-supported prostheses. He was awarded an AM (Order of Australia, General Division) for services to Dentistry in 2007.
