Dental Update 2021 sees six leading experts combine to present this outstanding event.

A diversity of topics will be covered across the two day event and provide practitioners essential updates on techniques, materials and patient management approaches. Restorative Dentistry, Oral Pathology, Oral Medicine, Dental Implants and updates on TMD and Pain management are snapshots of the diverse range of topics to be covered at the event.

    Dr Anthony Mak graduated with multiple awards from the University of Sydney in 2002. He then went on to complete his Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants). Anthony’s interest lies in dental technologies, advances in materials and techniques; and he has a unique understanding of CAD-CAM digital dentistry.Anthony runs two practices in metropolitan Sydney, focusing on quality modern comprehensive care, including aesthetic and implant dentistry. Outside of clinical practice, Anthony also sits on the Restorative Advisory Board for GC Europe, the Executive planning committee for the Graduate Diploma in Implant Dentistry (Syd Uni), an executive committee member for the Dental Alumni of the University of Sydney, and is the team leader in Australia for the renown BioEmulation Group, a global group of high achieving dental practitioners.

  • Dr Barbara Woodhouse

    Dr Barbara Woodhouse

    Specialist Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon - MBBS, MDSc, FRACDS, FFDRCS (Ireland), FRACDS (OMS)

    Dr Woodhouse graduated in dentistry from the University of Qld in 1978 and worked for Qld Health and in private practice - both in rural Queensland and in Brisbane - before deciding to specialise in oral and maxillofacial surgery. After completing a Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, she returned to the University of Qld to teach and to complete a Masters degree in oral and maxillofacial surgery in combination with a four-year surgical training program, initially at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. Dr Woodhouse completed her final year in a world class training facility in the UK and was admitted to Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.She was awarded a travelling Fellowship to Europe in recognition of the work she undertook in England. On her return to Australia, Dr Woodhouse commenced private practice in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. At the same time she completed a medical degree through the University of Queensland and was awarded a specialist Fellowship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.She was appointed a consultant at the Royal Brisbane and Princess Alexandra Hospitals from 1994 to 2009 where she pioneered several techniques not previously performed by oral and maxillofacial surgeons in Queensland. She has also served as Lieutenant Colonel Consultant to the Australian Army, and is currently on the national board of examiners for doctors applying for specialist registration in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.Dr Woodhouse practices all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery but has a special interest in the correction of facial deformity.

    Dentist

    Dr Keith Doonan qualified in 1993 from the Royal London Hospital Dental School. He received his Masters in Prosthodontics in 2006 from King’s College London. He is a Fellow of the RACDS and a member of Dental Protection’s education faculty. He is a graduate from the Australian Performing Arts Conservatory in Brisbane and uses these skills to create a unique, interactive and engaging presentation style. He is also a terrible amateur magician and stand-up comic. He has lectured widely since 2006 on implants, prosthodontics and communication skills.

    Professor Ian Meyers is a general dental practitioner and honorary professor at The University of Queensland School of Dentistry. Throughout his career as an academic and clinician he has developed extensive experience in comprehensive patient care, diagnosis and management of worn and broken down dentition, geriatric and aged care dentistry, adhesive restorative dentistry and dental materials, and the management of patients through minimum intervention dentistry.

    Professor Richard Logan

    Dean and Head of the Adelaide Dental School

    Professor Richard Logan is the Dean and Head of the Adelaide Dental School. He completed his post-graduate training in Oral Pathology in 1998 at The University of Adelaide and gained his PhD in 2008. In 2007, he completed the Fellowship examination in Oral Pathology with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.His main research interest is in regard to toxicities of cancer treatment, particularly the pathobiology of alimentary tract mucositis. Internationally, he is a member of the Mucositis Study Group of the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer and recently he has been involved in the development of updated international guidelines for mucositis management.He has engaged widely with both the dental and medical professions. He is past President of the International Society of Oral Oncology and is previous Chair of the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia. Richard chairs the Dental Board of Australia’s Expert Reference Group (Specialists) as well as Equivalence Assessment Panels for internationally qualified dental specialists. He is currently a practitioner member of the Dental Board of Australia. In addition to his academic role, Richard is also a Consultant in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Clinpath Laboratories, Adelaide, South Australia.
