Event Details

The Cracked Tooth Syndrome and split roots are common but can be difficult to diagnose and treat. This course will give practitioners an understanding of these problems, and provide practical experience in prevention and management.

The program will consist of lectures on the biomechanics of tooth fracture, clinical signs and symptoms and endodontic considerations. Practical sessions will be held on the placement of amalgam overlays, amalgam cores and preparations for metal and ceramic onlays.

Learning Objectives

  • understand the reasons for possible endodontic intervention
  • prepare affected teeth for protective restorations

    A/Professor John Boucher


    A/Professor John Boucher AM graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1978. He is an Associate Professor of the University of Melbourne, having taught and examined for the University of Melbourne in Clinical Dentistry for 39 consecutive years. John served on the ADAVB Defence and other Committees and is a former co-chair of eviDent, Australia’s first ever Dental Practice Based Research Network (UniMelb, ADAVB, CRC-OH). He has been a clinical examiner for the ADC since its inception, having previously examined for ADEC since 1993. He is a General Practitioner dentist of over 40 years and has lectured to ADA State and National conferences on Dental Records, Restorative Dentistry and CAD CAM Dentistry. John has made four trips to Vietnam as a volunteer providing dental services in rural areas to school age children with the Rotary Australia Vietnam Dental Health Project. He is a past president of the Dental Practice Board of Victoria and past president of the Victorian Notifications and Registration Committee of the Dental Board of Australia. He is past President of the Australian Dental Council, a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Dental Surgeons, a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, a Fellow of the Pierre Fauchard Academy and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

    Dr Graham Woolley

    Specialist Prosthodontist

    Dr Graham Woolley worked in general dental practice for over 10 years before commencing his training as a specialist prosthodontist. He obtained a Master of Dental Science Degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Melbourne School of Dental Science in 2003. Since then, Dr Woolley has worked in specialist private practice, as a consultant for the Australian Defence Force in Victoria and as a Senior Lecturer at the Melbourne School of Dental Science where he was twice awarded the Eggleston Trust Prize for Excellence in Teaching.

  • Dr Peter Spili

    Dr Peter Spili

    Specialist Endodontist

    Dr Peter Spili is a specialist Endodontist in full-time private practice. He also serves as a clinical demonstrator for Undergraduate Endodontics and as an external examiner for the Postgraduate Endodontic Programme at the University of Melbourne. He is a member of the Australian Society of Endodontics, Australian and New Zealand Academy of Endodontists, and the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons. He also practiced as a general dentist for 11 years, which allowed him to gain a wealth of knowledge in many facets of dentistry including restorative considerations for endodontics and the assessment and management of cracks in teeth.     Dr Rebecca Wong


    Dr Rebecca Wong obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science degree in 1988, Master in Dental Science in 1996 and PhD in 2007 from the University of Melbourne. She currently works full time as the Director of Clinical Education at the Melbourne Dental School and practices part-time as a Prosthodontist at the Royal Dental Hospital Melbourne. Rebecca has research interests on the dental materials, dentine and education.
