The success with implant prostheses is well known but the complications are seldom discussed. Complications with implants are stressful but are a harsh clinical reality. These are often a result of inadequate treatment planning, poorly designed prostheses, and a lack of regular maintenance. In this lecture, the complications from a prosthodontic aspect will be discussed in detail, as well as the design considerations and maintenance guidelines. As a result, the risk of complications can be minimised, and a long-term successful outcome can be achieved. LEARNING OBJECTIVES • List the 11 types of tooth resorption • Describe the specifVic clinical features of each type of resorption • Describe the specific radiographic features of each type of resorption • Differentially diagnose the different types of resorption.

- Learn to identify different implant prosthesis complications and their management.
- Learn to critically evaluate implant prostheses to minimise complications.
- Learn the recent literature and the clinical tips to help with decisionmaking and maintenance of implant prostheses.
