Module 1: Oral Surgery Principles
The initial Module aims at teaching you the necessities of Oral Surgery including: patient assessment, medical history, oral surgery principles, introduction to third molar extraction, consent and anatomy.
Topics covered:
- Patient and case assessment.
- Consent: surgical extraction consent protocols and cases that have gone before the board previously and learning from these examples.
- Anatomy: Back to basics in dental anatomy.
- Treatment planning: Patient driven treatment planning.
- Radiography: CBCT (When, why, and how).
Module 2: Clinical Oral Surgery
Module 2 aims to expand the students learning in surgical execution, flap design, sectioning techniques and protocols, clinical prosthetic tips and more.
- Flap design and planning.
- Suturing techniques and primary closure.
- How to improve my denture design with pre-prosthetic surgery.
- Surgical planning – Principles of sectioning.
- Hands-on pigs head and model training.
Module 3: Atraumatic Extraction and Hands-on trining
- Atraumatic extraction techniques.
- Extraction considerations prior to implant placement.
- Complications, management and prevention.
- When to refer?
- Sterile set-up.
Module 4: Live Surgery
Live Surgery goes over two days and enables students to treat their own patients, act as assistants, observe, have mentoring discussions, learn sterilisation protocols and key surgical principles in a clinical environment.

Graduating with honours from the University of Melbourne in 1999, Luan worked in both public and private practice until 2003 when he commenced a Ph.D. in the field of periodontics looking at biomarkers for periodontal disease. Luan completed the didactic component of his specialist training in periodontics in 2009 and since then has been working in both private practice and as an academic at the University of Melbourne. Luan is currently the Lecturer in Periodontics and Convenor of the undergraduate (now graduate entry) periodontics program at the Melbourne Dental School. Luan is also currently the president of the Australian Society of Periodontology (Victorian Branch). Luan is a fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the specialist field of Periodontics.

Dr Matt graduated with a Masters of Clinical Dentistry from La Trobe University in addition to a Bachelor of Health Science. Matthew excelled amongst his peers, completing top of the class in Clinical Dentistry. Dr Matt’s dental passion includes: Implants, Orthodontics, Invisalign, Wisdom Teeth, Wrinkle reduction injections and Fillers. He has learnt from World Leaders in Oral Implantology, is currently completed his Post-Graduate Diploma in Implantology and is also a gIDE Master Clinician in Implantology. Through his career he has been involved in numerous volunteer experiences and is now the Founder of the Australian Christian Dental Aid, providing much needed dentistry to underprivileged populations. Dr Matt has a passion to provide evidence-based dentistry and education to his patients in an empathetic and relaxed environment. Away from work Dr Matt loves spending time with his lovely wife Caroline and going along to see his beloved Westcoast Eagles.

Dr. Nathaniel is a specialist prosthodontist in full time private practice in Glen Waverley, Moonee Ponds and Berwick. He is the principal dentist at the Melbourne Prosthodontic Centre. Dr. Nathaniel graduated as a dentist in 1986 and worked in general practice for 4 years then finished his Masters in 1992 at the University of Melbourne. He is well experienced in multiple implant systems, being involved almost at the start of implant dentistry in Melbourne. Praveen has been restoring over 10 systems over the last 27 years and placing 5 systems for the last 13 years. He is passionate about continuing education and has attended many courses with the leading figures in implant dentistry. Dr Nathaniel has had a long history of teaching the undergraduates, dental nurses, hygienists and overseas dentists as well as running and presenting continuing education courses for dentists including lectures and courses for numerous implant companies and University of Melbourne. He has lectured extensively locally, interstate and internationally
