Only program for 2 0 2 2 ! Course summary
An international program for Australasia and the Asia-Pacific region. This two- part limited attendance program is for clinicians already with some experience in implant surgery who wish to refine their skills in the areas of advanced implant surgery, guided bone regeneration and bone grafting in an intimate environment with a highly qualified and experienced multi-disciplinary faculty.
The intensive four-day program provides continuity and convenience for the interstate and international participants in world class facilities at the Macquarie University Surgical Skills Centre in Sydney, Australia.
Part 1:
This pre-clinical program will consist of lectures, hands-on manikin workshops (on mounted bone models with sinus cavities & membrane and synthetic soft
tissue) to allow a uniform set of clinical procedures to be taught in a controlled, simulated clinical environment, including live surgery video and participant’s
case presentations over two full days.
This program will concentrate on the management of the most commonly encountered clinical problems during implant surgery.
Learning outcomes

Principles of soft tissue wound management & suturing techniques
Operatory set-up for implant surgery
Immediate implant placement

Richard was a fellow of the College of Dental Surgeons Hong Kong (Prosthodontics), Hong Kong Academy of
Medicine (Dental Surgery), Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists. He has practiced
implant dentistry since the mid-1980’s and has published in international and Australian journals and has lectured
extensively on restorative dentistry, implant surgery/GBR and prosthodontics in Australia, New Zealand, South-east
Asia and United Kingdom.
He is an Adjunct Associate Professor in Oral Rehabilitation, School of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine and Health, The
University of Sydney, and is on the faculty for Doctor of Clinical Dentistry (Prosthodontics). He was Program Director
of Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants) and is also an Honorary Associate Professor (Oral
Rehabilitation) at the University of Hong Kong. He was a past President of the Australasian Osseointegration Society
(NSW) Inc. and was in full time referral practice in Sydney limited to implant surgery and prosthodontics. Richard was

Periodontist
Dr Mercado has been a Periodontist for more than 20 years with private practices in Penrith and Blue Mountains (Specialist Periodontal and Implant Centre). Tino holds an A/Prof position at the Periodontal Post-Graduate Department at the University of Queensland. His PhD topic and latest publications in peer-reviewed high impact journals are on predictable management of peri-implantitis and management of periodontal recession on teeth and implants using autologous and alternative tissues.
He is the NSW Councilorfor the Australia and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists and a Periodontal examiner at the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). He is the Director for Western Sydney and Greater Blue Mountains International Team of Implantology (ITI) Study Club. He is twice recipient of the prestigious National and Health Medical Research Council Scholarship (1998 for MDSc and 2011 for PhD).

Dr Anthony Mak obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery from Sydney University and then went on to complete his Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Dentistry (Oral Implants). He graduated with multiple awards for clinical excellence and since then has built up two multi chaired practices in metropolitan Sydney focusing on comprehensive and aesthetic dentistry. Anthony is extremely passionate about dentistry and his interests lies in dental technologies and advances in materials and techniques. He has a unique understanding of Direct Composite Artistry and Cad-Cam Digital dentistry and is a key opinion leader for several dental companies in Australia and United States. He has written and published articles for the Australian Dental Association (NSW Branch) and other dental magazines in Australia and New Zealand. Anthony has also published a compendium of direct composite artistry for GC Australasia and this has been distributed locally and internationally. Anthony has a thorough understanding of direct vs indirect dental restorations and has lectured locally and internationally on the topics of aesthetic dentistry.

Dr Lydia Lim is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon in private specialist practice in Chatswood. She is a graduate of Sydney University and completed her Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training in Sydney obtaining the MDSc and FRACDS(OMS) qualifications. She then furthered her training in the United States at the University of Texas at Houston. Lydia is currently a Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon at Westmead Hospital where she is involved with teaching surgical registrars and managing maxillofacial trauma. She also has special interest in complex dental implantology and orthognathic surgery.

Nick completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Adelaide University before moving to London where he acquired
his MSc with distinction in Conservative Dentistry and his MClinDent in Prosthodontics at the Eastman Institute,
university of London. He then taught Implant Dentistry at the Eastman Institiute while working at the Harley Street
Dental Clinic in London.
He is a Senior Clinical Lecturer and examiner for the Graduate Diploma for Oral Implant at the University of
Sydney, and has been a Lecturer for the Syd University’s CE program “Extended Crown and Bridge, Veneers and
Implants”. Nick runs a referral-based practice in Macquarie Street in complex reconstructive and implant supported
dentistry. He has many years of experience in both the surgical and prosthodontic aspects of implant dentistry.
