Event Details
Practice teams want confidence that their Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) processes are compliant and best practice to enhance public safety.
Understanding what is required and then implementing these processes at the practice is not always easy. Last year ADA NSW’s Kylie Robb reviewed over 100 dental practice’s IPC processes and has since utilised that experience to create a targeted course that reveals what the key IPC areas of opportunity are for practices, breaks down what specifically needs to be done to achieve IPC best practice and highlights common ‘bloopers’ and what to do about them.
This course aims to build participants confidence with their Infection Prevention and Control processes by highlighting straightforward strategies to reduce risk, ensure best practice and improve efficiency. It is suitable for the entire team.
Topics include
- What are the key Infection Prevention and Control areas?
- What affects compliance and team performance?
- What is the top area of opportunity for improvement….and why?
- When would transmission-based precautions apply?
- Batch Control Identification
- Storage of instruments, the practice environment and more
- PPE vs Uniform – what do I have to do?
- Sterilising room – where do most practices go wrong?
- Endodontics, the lab, and handpieces – give me the facts
- How to complete steriliser logs; and what else do you have monitor in the steri?
- Spaulding classification and why this makes all the difference
Learning Objectives
- Gain knowledge and confidence with the key IPC areas and learn how to implement these successfully
- Understand what contemporary hand hygiene principles involve and how to apply them in a dental practice
- Apply efficient strategies to reprocess instruments
- Confidently set-up the treatment room for IPC success
- Identify what specific testing of equipment and indicators are required
- Implement an effective practice cleaning schedule

Event Details
Standard Precautions make up an integral part in maintaining effective Infection Prevention management so that your entire practice is always safe and compliant. To achieve this, every practice needs to implement consistent processes so that everyone is always doing the right thing.
When it comes to keeping the practice safe and compliant, it is not just one person’s responsibility.
In fact, the whole team plays an important role in managing Infection Prevention. Standard Precautions has an integral part to play in maintaining effective Infection Prevention management.
Frustrations can often present themselves when different team members do different things; especially when one person may have joined the team from another practice that did things slightly differently. Each practice is different, so having every team member trained in implementing your policies and procedures consistently means frustration and confusion can be eliminated.
In this training session, you and your team will learn the importance of Standard Precautions to break the infectious cycle and keep all dental team members and your patients safe.
– Prevention is better than control. Gain a clear understanding of what Standard Precautions are and how it is important to achieve these efficiently and effectively.
– Consistency is the key to success. Identify where processes can fail and how to achieve a reproducible workflow so that everyone is doing the right thing in exactly the way your practice requires it.
Preventing transmission of diseases helps to protect the practice – not just from a well-being and safety perspective, but the reputation of the entire practice as well.
This live online training session looks at the clinical elements of Infection Prevention and Control with a focus on team safety and management of the reprocessing workflow in the treatment room.

Event Details
All branches of Infection Prevention & Control in the dental practice lead to sterilisation and how effectively your instruments and devices are reprocessed to stop the spread of infectious diseases. Sterilisation is the end goal that ensures our team members and patients are safe.
It is common in most practices for all team members to undertake reprocessing duties from time to time. While dental assistants or a Sterilisation Nurse may undertake these duties regularly, there may be circumstances that see a Front Office Co-ordinator or even a Practice Manager jumping in to help. But, as clinicians are ultimately accountable for this reprocessing workflow, it is important that they also have a clear understanding of how sterilisation is achieved before they reuse an instrument in a patient’s mouth.
In this training session, you and your team will learn…
– How sterilisation fits into the accountability vs responsibility model of your Infection Prevention Management Plan.
– Common workflow issues in sterilisation areas.
– How poor room design and limited space can hugely impact the overall efficiency of the practice.
– Where sterilisation procedures can fail and how to minimise the risk of a breach.
– Understand the required testing, monitoring, recording and storage of cycle data – if it’s not recorded it’s not done!
This live online training session moves away from the treatment room and focus on the reprocessing workflow in the sterilisation area.

Event Details
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the essential role of the rubber dam in promoting a safe and reassuring environment for both patients and the dental team. Rubber dam reduces aerosol contamination by as much as 98%. Levels 2 and 3 restrictions mandated the use of rubber dam for ALL restorative procedure creating aerosols, not just for endodontics. COVID-19 has changed dental practice, with a much greater emphasis on infection control.
Besides greatly reducing the two-way spread of bacteria and viruses, rubber dam increases practice efficiency. It reduces stress for both patients and the dental team. It creates the optimum environment for the placement of restorative materials and ensures the highest level of medical and legal protection.
This course will teach you rapid and simplified techniques of rubber dam application from single tooth isolation to quadrant dentistry in a full ‘hands-on’ environment complemented by lectures and clinical notes. It encourages a team approach and the participation of your dental assistant is encouraged.

- Spaulding classification and why this makes all the difference
