The MomentumWe want you to understand how the differences we make contribute to your success. To achieve that, we want you to know our founding story. Jim Pride was a dentist and the Assistant Dean at the University of the Pacific School of Dentistry in California. He saw a gap in the training of new dentists who wanted to own their own practices. He recognised that they needed business training as well as clinical training. Jim established Pride Institute in the 1970s. Twenty-five years later, an Australian dentist by the name of Phillip Palmer travelled 16,000 kms from Australia to the US to receive Prides management training. It was here that he met his expert trainer and mentor, Randi Goda. He loved what Pride was doing and enticed Goda, a psychologist and lawyer, to come to Australia to establish Pride Practice Australia in 2000. Palmer and Goda were in business for a year. Then they both went out on their own. Philip Palmer started Prime Practice and Randi Goda launched Momentum. This moment in history defines the difference between Momentum and others. Randi’s years of serving the dental industry as a lawyer and psychologist meant she knew how to enhance a practice’s profits by providing business acumen and high performance mentoring. Just as a Louis Vuitton purse is made with supreme care and every Mercedes is engineered to perfection, Momentum chose quality over quantity. This meant more in-depth mentoring and tailored training. Momentum only want people who care to grow in their programs. People who want to grow their practice, their team and themselves. In 2008, like so many dentists, Dr. Toni Surace was struggling. Balancing work and a young family, she was wrestling with depression and anxiety while running her practice. The strain led to hospitalisation. She knew she needed help with her practice. She tried bits and pieces of different practice management programs but nothing felt right until Momentum. “I remember my very first Momentum short course. I loved it. I leaned over to the person beside me and said, One day, I’ll be doing that. I took my whole practice through Momentum’s program and achieved high profits, a happy team, and, for the first time, a balanced life. I loved the program so much that four years later I bought the company. I am now on a mission to help dentists grow their practice and have a great life in this amazing industry.” Dr. Toni strengthened the tradition of Momentums bespoke approach. She is proud of creating the most relationship-focused management practice in Australia and New Zealand. Dentistry is a relationship business. Yes, we help you grow every facet of your business but its more than just the bottom line. We teach you to be a leader. We help you to read people, your patients and your staff so you see situations with crystal clarity and act wisely and consistently. This level of attentiveness builds you and your teams reputation for being exceptional. Being a practicing dentist and having dental professionals on our team gives us credibility. Clients see that we’ve done it and know they can do it too. When people ask us why they should choose us, we explain that we care more.

Event Details
All branches of Infection Prevention & Control in the dental practice lead to sterilisation and how effectively your instruments and devices are reprocessed to stop the spread of infectious diseases. Sterilisation is the end goal that ensures our team members and patients are safe.
It is common in most practices for all team members to undertake reprocessing duties from time to time. While dental assistants or a Sterilisation Nurse may undertake these duties regularly, there may be circumstances that see a Front Office Co-ordinator or even a Practice Manager jumping in to help. But, as clinicians are ultimately accountable for this reprocessing workflow, it is important that they also have a clear understanding of how sterilisation is achieved before they reuse an instrument in a patient’s mouth.
In this training session, you and your team will learn…
– How sterilisation fits into the accountability vs responsibility model of your Infection Prevention Management Plan.
– Common workflow issues in sterilisation areas.
– How poor room design and limited space can hugely impact the overall efficiency of the practice.
– Where sterilisation procedures can fail and how to minimise the risk of a breach.
– Understand the required testing, monitoring, recording and storage of cycle data – if it’s not recorded it’s not done!
This live online training session moves away from the treatment room and focus on the reprocessing workflow in the sterilisation area.

Standard Precautions make up an integral part in maintaining effective Infection Prevention management so that your entire practice is always safe and compliant. To achieve this, every practice needs to implement consistent processes so that everyone is always doing the right thing.
When it comes to keeping the practice safe and compliant, it is not just one person’s responsibility.
In fact, the whole team plays an important role in managing Infection Prevention. Standard Precautions has an integral part to play in maintaining effective Infection Prevention management.
Frustrations can often present themselves when different team members do different things; especially when one person may have joined the team from another practice that did things slightly differently. Each practice is different, so having every team member trained in implementing your policies and procedures consistently means frustration and confusion can be eliminated.
In this training session, you and your team will learn the importance of Standard Precautions to break the infectious cycle and keep all dental team members and your patients safe.
– Prevention is better than control. Gain a clear understanding of what Standard Precautions are and how it is important to achieve these efficiently and effectively.
– Consistency is the key to success. Identify where processes can fail and how to achieve a reproducible workflow so that everyone is doing the right thing in exactly the way your practice requires it.
Preventing transmission of diseases helps to protect the practice – not just from a well-being and safety perspective, but the reputation of the entire practice as well.
This live online training session looks at the clinical elements of Infection Prevention and Control with a focus on team safety and management of the reprocessing workflow in the treatment room.

Event Details
This lecture is designed for the entire Dental Team, including Dentists, Oral Health Therapists, Dental Therapists, Hygienists, Practice Managers and Dental Assistants.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Most dentists will use ADA item numbers every working day of their lives, but if you use them incorrectly, you may find yourself in hot water. Under the guidance of Martin and Larissa, learn how to avoid becoming the subject of a health fund or Medicare audit and how to comply with the DBA’s requirements for clinical records.
Martin has a vast experience in this area, having worked on the ADA Inc. Schedule and having conducted dental practice audits for AHPRA. In this course, Martin will draw on case studies, presenting participants with a particularly tricky clinical case they may experience in general dental practice! Participants are encouraged to bring their own item number questions for Martin to answer in an open forum discussion.
Topics that will be covered are:
- Australian Schedule of Dental Services and Glossary
- CDBS item numbers
- The health fund’s view
- What triggers a health fund audit and how to respond to it
- Case studies of health fund investigations where clinical records have been major factors
- Commonly investigated item numbers
- The most misused item numbers and why
- What happens if a health fund considers a claim is fraudulent
- AHPRA’s view about fraudulent claims
- DBA record keeping requirements

The pressures to deliver services at competitive rates is now clearly visible in all aspects of dentistry. With regards to dental implants, this is perhaps even more true. However, when the actual accounting of the placement, restoring and maintenance of implants is reviewed, there are some significant differences in where the profit margins vs the risk of procedures having adverse consequences. This lecture looks at what it really costs to utilising the option of the dental implant and perhaps what aspects have been ignored to the clinicians peril.

Huddles & Team Meetings : COVID19 & Beyond
Good communication systems are the backbone of success in any dental practice. The lack of these systems can lead to operational breakdowns leading to additional stress for the entire team. During times of uncertainty and change, such as we are experiencing from COVID-19, communicating effectively is more crucial than ever.
The best time to build enthusiasm, generate commitment and inspire your team is right now. In this course you will learn how to foster and promote great team spirit by incorporating systems which enable regular intra-team communication.
- Team Huddles: You will learn the mechanics of how to run a well-facilitated daily meeting, of what we call the Daily Huddle. The Daily Huddle promotes teamwork and encourages open communication amongst everyone in the team resulting in a smooth, flowing day with reduced stress. As business resumes for all practices, find out how your huddles can be used to support your team and your patients through the impact of COVID-19.
- Team Meetings: We will also cover how to get the most out of your regular team meetings by applying some simple guidelines and facilitation techniques. Meeting remotely, as many practices have done during the COVID-19 shutdowns and restrictions, have become the ‘new normal’. Learn how to get the most out of remote meetings and managing them so they are as effective as meeting face-to-face.
By encouraging an environment where communication flows positively, the practice will be able to function more productively and effectively.
